‘Musical Moments: East Meets West’ on Dec. 6, 2015, in Tampa

“Musical Moments: East Meets West” ensemble will take the stage at Jaeb Theater,  Straz Center for the Performing Arts in Tampa, on Sunday, Dec. 6. In the show, Tampa-based Wahh! World Fusion Band and their guest collaborators, master musicians from India, will take the attendees on a dazzling musical journey — from Indian classical music through to world fusion with jazz, rock and funk infused into their artful sound.

Tabla artist and vocalist Shankh Lahiri, fronts Tampa Bay’s own rising stars, Wahh! World Fusion Band — Rajib Karmakar on sitar, Peter Mongaya on guitar, Ray Villadonga on bass and Michael Washington on drums and percussion. The award-winning Prattyush Banerjee joins the band on sarod as does the popular Bollywood singer/song writer/producer Jolly Mukherjee. The lineup of musicians also features the talented Deb and Jyoti Sankar Roy of the well-known duo, “The Violin Brothers.” The two have performed under such musical maestros at Pandit Ravi Shankar and Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, and Zubin Mehta, the then conductor of New York Philharmonic Orchestra.

“Musical Moments” is presented by Kaakimaas Box and Shruti Foundation at Jaeb Theater, Straz Center for the Performing Arts, 1010 N. W.C. MacInnes Place.
